  • Reflections on Women, Austerity, Creativity, Challenge & Transgression

     A wide-ranging exploration of our theme, including music from Amorous Jazz & the SeaGreen Singers, local narratives, performances/films from Ruskin artists curated by Ruth Spencer Jolly, and Panel Discussion.

    Guest speakers included: academic and South East England MEP Anneliese Dodds; ‘Seeds of Hope’ Ploughshares activist Andrea Needham, who helped to disarm a warplane bound for genocide in East Timor; Kerry-Anne Mendoza, author of the Scriptonite Daily blog, who left her career as a Management Consultant to be part of the Occupy Movement; OUSU Vice President for Women, Lucy Delaney; social entrepreneur Christine McDermott (founder of Relish); and food bank pioneer Emma Tinker.

    The Female Gaze: Students at the Ruskin School of Art, Ruth Spencer Jolly, Nina Wakeford, Margaret Chung, Mirren Kessling and Bex Pannett presented a programme of feminist performance intervention and video art.
